Set in a mythical “once upon a time” sort of land, Shrek the Musical is the story of a hulking green ogre who, after being mocked and feared his entire life by anything that crosses his path, retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation. Suddenly, a gang of homeless fairy-tale characters (Pinocchio, Cinderella, the Three Pigs, you name it) raid his sanctuary, saying they’ve been evicted by the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad. So Shrek strikes a deal: I’ll get your homes back, if you give me my home back! But when Shrek and Farquaad meet, the Lord strikes a deal of his own: He’ll give the fairy-tale characters their homes back, if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona. Shrek obliges, yet finds something appealing–something strange and different–about this pretty princess. He likes her. A lot. But why does she always run off when the sun sets?

Oakbrook Preparatory School received a recommendation for AdvancED accreditation Friday after a two-day External Review visit.

AdvancED covers more than 32,000 public and independent institutions in more than 70 countries and involves 20 million students. As a part of the accreditation process, a team of trained professionals reviewed documents and performance data; interviewed stakeholders; conducted a site review; and observed school practices in action. Five main areas are explored including: Purpose and Direction; Governance and Leadership; Teaching and Assessing for Learning; Resources and Support Systems; and Using Results for Continuous Improvement.

Oakbrook received an overall score of 323.08 compared to the international average of 278. The average score includes all the schools (public and independent) that completed this process during the last school year.

"This is an exciting day! I am extremely proud of our Oakbrook community. This is recognition of the hard work and dedication of our students, parents, faculty, and board," said Interim Head of School Kyle Boyles.

The team offered recognition of strong practices, as well as areas for improvement to the school. Mr. Boyles will share a complete presentation of the review findings during the school's Town Hall meeting March 6 at 6 p.m. in the Student Commons.

Parents and interested community members also can learn more about the AdvancED Accreditation Process at www.advanc-ed.org.
