Oakbrook Middle School Launches Charitable Foundation

The 6th and 7th grade Bible students are starting a giving foundation called "Our Five Talents," based on Matthew 25

Today's Christmas Missions Bazaar is funding a giving foundation called "Our Five Talents," based on Matthew 25.

This is an opportunity for our middle school students (and a few partner Seniors) to use their talents so that God can multiply them and impact others with the Gospel truths of Jesus.

Students and teachers can apply for grant funding. Applications are at the front office and are due back January 15th.

We want to fund their fellow students and our teachers by supporting projects that are specifically designed to carry the hope of Jesus to a lost world or/and teach Biblical truths.

If there is a project you have been wanting to do or a need in your classroom, we want to help make that happen!

Please pick up an application! :)

Message from Mr. Hinds

Where are your roots? Today we remember those who lost their lives on 9/11, while at the same time meditating on God's promise to us.

Our theme this year is SOLID. "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into action will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock." Matthew 7/24

Jesus finished his sermon on the mount with this decree. As he finished his instructions to his disciples that day, his words remain true to us today and for the rest of time. He warns us not to build our identity on the shifting sands of the world, but to meditate on His word and let the word direct our thoughts and actions. In this way, we will not be blown over by the winds of the world.

It's easy to look around at the shifting sands of the world and feel fear. Media perpetuates that fear. However, all throughout God's word, we find references to our roots. God teaches us about planting our roots in Him. In Psalm 92:12-13 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree...; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of God." And the verse upon which the Oakbrook name and logo originated, Psalm 1:3 "He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers."

What does this all mean for our fear? It means when the towers of this world collapse, we stand firm. It means when the bombs of this world explode, we keep it together. It all depends on our roots. As parents and teachers, let's all set that tone today for our children - that it is on Chirst the solid rock we stand; all other ground is sinking sand. Let's help our children remain steadfast in God's word and rest assured that as Christians we will NOT be blown over by the winds of the world if we are rooted, SOLID, in Christ.

I feel blessed today to lead a school where we can take time out of our day from teaching facts to talk about God's promise and help our children focus on His truth so that they build their house on the rock.
