Former chemist brings professional experience to Oakbrook
Oakbrook Preparatory School is proud to announce the addition of Alice Yielding as its new physical science teacher.
Alice has a BS in chemistry with a math minor from Athens State in Alabama and worked as a chemist out of college and then transitioned to teaching where she has experience in charter and home school environments teaching chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
“I am excited for Alice to join our faculty. She has incredibly high standards for science education, believes in the importance of lab-based learning, and is a great cultural fit,” said Head of School Adair Hinds.
“I am really looking forward to working with the students and staff at Oakbrook,” said Alice. “I’m excited to get started and show them all the fun and exciting things about the physical science world.”
Alice said she is eager to begin sharing her proefessional experience with Oakbrook students through labs as well educating them about careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
"There are so many opportunites for students today," she said.
In addition to her passion for science, Alice started the upstate FLL robotics team for the homeschool group where her students placed second in technical design and qualified for the state competition. Alice consulted with the Oakbrook team prior to the world competition. She has experience programming and is excited to help lead our robotics program.
Alice is married to Michael, who works as an engineer for CMH2Hill. Her son Brad will be joining us in the Fall as an 8th grader.
