At Oakbrook Preparatory School, we know that the early years before kindergarten are filled with wonder, curiosity, and discovery. That’s why our K3 and K4 programs are designed to spark your child’s love for learning in a warm, nurturing environment. Through hands-on, play-based experiences, our dedicated teachers encourage little learners to create, explore, and grow—building confidence and essential skills across social, emotional, academic, physical, and spiritual areas. With a faith-integrated, multisensory approach, we help children develop a strong foundation so they enter kindergarten with excitement, readiness, and a lifelong passion for learning.
Children benefit from our structured yet engaging days, which include a variety of learning and play activities designed to nurture their curiosity and growth. In each of our preschool classes, your child will:
Through nursery rhyme studies, storytime, and songs, children develop essential pre-literacy and writing skills. Students also enjoy a designated library day each week, where they check out books and learn about fiction and nonfiction, fostering a love for reading.
Art is an essential part of early childhood development, allowing children to express themselves, develop fine motor skills, and engage in hands-on creative exploration. Each week, preschool students participate in a dedicated art class where they experiment with different materials, colors, and textures to bring their imaginations to life. Whether painting, sculpting, or crafting, children build confidence and creativity while discovering the joy of artistic expression.
Students are actively engaged in hands-on learning experiences as they explore math and science concepts through various centers, interactive activities, and oral discussions with their teacher. Regular STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities encourage problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity.
Prayer and discussions about God’s beautiful creation are woven throughout the entire learning experience. Daily Bible stories and prayer time help children develop a foundation of faith while encouraging kindness, gratitude, and wonder.
Teachers guide children in learning conflict resolution and restorative practices, helping them build strong, healthy relationships with their peers. Through structured activities and free play, children develop empathy, communication skills, and respect for others in a caring, supportive environment.
Daily outdoor play allows children to run, climb, and develop gross motor skills while learning cooperation and teamwork. Once a week, each preschool class has a special session with a physical education teacher, providing structured activities that enhance coordination, balance, and physical confidence.
Music is an integral part of early childhood learning. Children regularly sing songs, move to music, and play rhythm instruments in class, reinforcing skills like listening, counting, and language development. Additionally, they attend a dedicated music class once a week with a music teacher, where they explore melodies, beats, and creative movement.
All of our early childhood teachers hold Early Childhood Education credentials and are passionate about fostering a love of learning in every child. Our small class sizes—an 8:1 student-to-teacher ratio in the 3’s Program and a 12:1 ratio in the 4’s—allow for personalized attention. Our teachers are committed to building strong relationships with students and families, maintaining open communication to support each child’s growth and development.
At Oakbrook Preparatory School, we believe that preschool is more than just preparation for kindergarten—it’s the beginning of a lifelong journey of curiosity, faith, and joyful learning.
